CELTIC legend Frank McGarvey has issued an emotional message to the club's fans after it was announced that he had been diagnosed with cancer. The Northern Irishman has signed a deal that will take him up to the end of the 2023-24 campaign. He has been out of management since stepping down from his second managerial spell at Celtic Park last February. Omonia recently parted ways with former Rangers and Manchester United defender Henning Berg. They featured in the group stage of this season's Europa Conference League but missed out on a place in the Cypriot top six when the league split in two. Lennon, 50, led Celtic to 10 major trophies across his two stints as manager, winning two league titles, two Scottish Cups and a League Cup having returned to the club in February 2019 following the departure of Brendan Rodgers. However he resigned two years later as Celtic's bid to win 10 consecutive league titles crumbled. In between his spells at Celtic Lennon spent 17 months as manager of Bolton Wanderers before guiding Hibernian to the Scottish Championship title in 2017.

Ex-Celtic boss Neil Lennon guides AC Omonia to Europa League group stage after knocking out Gent in play-off clash
NEIL LENNON has fired AC Omonio to the Europa League group stage after beating Gent 2-0 tonight. The Cypriot side won 4-0 on aggregate following the same scoreline in Belgium last week.

Neil Lennon: Former Celtic manager sacked by Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia
The club announced the news soon after a 1-0 home defeat by Nea Salamis that leaves them seventh in the Division One table. Former Celtic boss Lennon led Omonia to Cypriot Cup success in May. Last week they came within seconds of earning a 0-0 draw against Manchester United in the Europa League.

Former Celtic hero Mikael Lustig has announced he will be retiring from football at the end of the 2022 season with AIK Stockholm. The 35-year-old will bring his successful 18-year career to an end next month following the conclusion of the Allsvenskan league campaign. During his playing days, Lustig had three separate spells in his homeland, as well as spending time in Norway and Belgium. However, his most prolific and likely the most memorable time across his playing days was spent in Glasgow as a Celtic player. After joining the Hoops from Rosenborg in 2012, the right-back spent around eight years at the club, working under Neil Lennon, Ronny Deila and Brendan Rodgers. Lustig was part of some of the most successful teams in the club’s illustrious history, lifting eight Scottish Premiership titles, four Scottish Cups and four Scottish League Cups. The Swedish international played a crucial role as part of the Treble Treble-winning side and was the starting right-back during Brendan Rodgers Invincible season. No Celtic supporter would fail to remember Lustig’s brilliant antics, and he was seen as one of the biggest characters within the Hoops changing room. Of course, who could forget his famous police hat celebration in the 5-0 win over Rangers at Celtic Park. Across his 276 appearances for the Bhoys, the full-back made a decent contribution in front of goal, scoring 21 and providing 40 assists.

Shunsuke Nakamura finally calls time on an incredible playing career
Shunsuke Nakamura has finally called time on his incredible playing career, retiring at the age of 44 after playing professional football for 25 years. He made his first-team debut for his hometown team, Yokohama F. Marinos in March 1997, and spent five years with the club before moving to Italy when he signed for Reggina.
In July 2005, Gordon Strachan brought him to Celtic, and supporters had a new hero in the green and white Hoops, which began when he produced a Man of the Match performance on his debut against Dundee United at Paradise. Over the next four years, he made 166 appearances for the Hoops, scoring 33 goals, and he won three league titles, two League Cups and the Scottish Cup. There were many memorable moments for Celtic’s No.25, including a stunning goal in a Glasgow derby at Paradise, a last-minute league-clinching free-kick at Rugby Park, and a superb hat-trick against Dundee United at Tannadice. But his iconic goal to beat Manchester United in the Champions League, which also booked Celtic’s qualification for the knockout stages of the competition for the first time ensured Nakamura’s place in Celtic history. The Japanese playmaker had already scored against United in the game at Old Trafford, although the Hoops lost that match 3-2, but on November 21, 2006, he fired in an unstoppable free-kick from 30 yards out with just nine minutes of the match remaining to send Paradise into raptures.
In 2009, after four memorable years with Celtic, the man known as Naka moved to Spain, joining Espanyol where he spent a season. From there, he returned to Yokohama F Marinos, where he remained for the next seven years, before spells with Júbilo Iwata and then, for the past three years, Yokohama FC. At international level, he scored 24 goals in 98 appearances for Japan, and played in both the 2006 and 2010 World Cup tournaments.
Last Sunday, he made his final appearance as a professional footballer at the age of 44, playing for an hour in Yokohama FC’s 4-3 away win against Roasso Kumamoto. He received a standing ovation from the crowd, acknowledging his legendary status in Japanese football. And for Celtic supporters, they continue to cherish the many memories that Shunsuke Nakamura left from four incredible years in the green and white Hoops.

Former Celtic striker, Frank McGarvey, passes away
Everyone at Celtic is extremely saddened to hear of the death of former striker, Frank McGarvey, who passed away earlier this morning (January 1) at the age of 66. Frank spoke to supporters at Celtic Park ahead of the game against Hibernian back in October to thank them for all their support over the years, and in particular, more recently following the news that he was battling cancer.
Frank’s career as a professional footballer began with St Mirren in 1975, and he spent four years with the Paisley before moving south to join Liverpool. After 10 months at Anfield, he returned to Scotland, signing for his beloved Celtic in March 1980 for a fee of around £270,000, becoming, for a short time, became Scotland's most expensive footballer.
Over the next five years, Frank went on to play 245 times for Celtic, scoring 109 goals, and he is one of only 30 players in Celtic’s history to have scored at least a century of goals for the club. He won two league titles, two Scottish Cups and the League Cup with Celtic, and is fondly remembered for his wonderful diving header goal to win the Scottish Cup in 1985. He would go on to win the Scottish Cup again with St Mirren in 1987, having returned to the Paisley club for a second spell. And at international level, he gained seven caps for Scotland.
Frank would later have spells playing with Queen of the South, Clyde, Shotts Bon Accord and Troon. The thoughts and prayers of everyone at Celtic are with Frank’s family at this extremely sad time.

Rest in peace, Frank. You'll Never Walk Alone.

Jetzt ist es trotzdem wieder vorbei.

Scott Brown: Fleetwood sack manager after winless start to season
The Celtic legend, 38, departs after 16 months in charge following a winless start to the season. The Cod Army have picked up just one point from their first six League One games, having been beaten 2-1 at Charlton Athletic on Saturday. Brown's assistant head coach Steven Whittaker has also left the Lancashire club, who are second bottom of the table.
